It is situated in a beautiful location called “the pearl of South Moravia” – the Lednice – Valtice Cultural Landscape, listed in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage index. The “Wine Salon of the Czech Republic” is the most prestigious wine competition in the Czech Republic. Only wines made from grapes grown in the Czech Republic can be entered into the competition. Then the wine samples are assessed by a committee of winetasters, who awards the best 100 wines the right to put the words “Salon vín České republiky” (“Wine Salon of the Czech Republic”) on their label.

Lednice Chateau Tour
Before or after winetasting at Valtice Chateau, you can enjoy a guided tour of one of the most beautiful sights in the country – the Lednice Chateau. The first historical record of the Lednice Chateau dates from 1222. At that time, it was only a Gothic fort with a courtyard. At the end of the 13th century, the Liechtensteins, originally from Styria, became holders of all of Lednice and of nearby Mikulov. They gradually acquired land on both sides of the Moravian-Austrian border. Members of the family usually became well-known for their military exploits. During the Renaissance they expanded their estates. The chateau as it looks today dates from 1846-1858, when Prince Alois II decided that Vienna was not suitable for entertaining in the summer and had Lednice rebuilt into a summer palace in the spirit of English Gothic. The hall on the ground floor would serve to entertain the European aristocracy at sumptuous banquets and was furnished with carved wooden ceilings, wooden paneling and select furniture, surpassing anything of its kind in Europe.
